Charles Ray Lynch

Charles R. Lynch, 82, of Waco, Texas departed this life on Sunday, July 16, 2023.  A visitation with his family and church family will be 4:30 pm on Tuesday, August 1st at St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Woodway.  A Funeral Service will follow at 5:30pm, with a meal after the service.  Burial will be 11 am, Wednesday, August 2nd at the Holy Archangels Greek Orthodox Monastery in Kendalia, Texas.

Charles was born January 25, 1941 in Lampasas, Texas to George and Pansy Lynch.  He grew up nearby in Lometa. Late in his high school years, the family relocated to Austin and he was a 1959 graduate of William B. Travis High School.  Charles earned his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from The University of Texas, and his Master of Engineering from Lamar University in Beaumont.  Charles spent his career at Texaco/Star Enterprise/Motiva, in Port Arthur, Texas, retiring in 1998. After retirement, Charles and Judy moved from Port Neches to Rockdale.

Charles married Judy Sobeck in November of 1960.  The couple raised four children.  Charles spent 76 years as an active member of a local Southern Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.  He spent several years serving in the Gideon ministry in Rockdale.  For the last six years, Charles and Judy served and became members of the Antiochian Orthodox Faith.

Charles was known for his witty and entertaining stories of his personal experiences.  He never met a stranger and enjoyed engaging in conversation with young people.  He spent several years serving as an Explorer Scout Leader.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved son, Jared Lynch.

He is survived by, his wife of 62 years, Judy; children, Sherry Woodward and husband Greg of San Mateo, Ca., Jennifer Lydick and husband Matt of Columbia, MD, Rusty Lynch of Aloha, OR; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and sister, Eva Fulton and husband Don of the Houston, TX area.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the St. Andrew’s Building Fund at 401 Estates Drive, Woodway, Texas 76712.
