Charles King

August 10, 1939 — December 26, 2011


After a brief struggle with cancer, Charles King, 72, passed away quietly on Monday, December 26 at his home in Robinson, TX surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be at ¬11AM Thursday, December 29, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Old Armour Cemetery in Coolidge, Texas. Visitation will be at Grace Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 28 from 6 to 8PM.

Charles (Chuck) Edward King was born on August 10, 1939 in Liberal, Kansas to Charles Linden and Lorena Pearl King. He was raised by a stepmother, Juanita King from age 4. He attended public schools in Tulsa, OK and joined the U.S. Army at age 17. Chuck served for 3 years as a medical corpsman and then in special services as a boxer, where he enjoyed recalling living with and sharing a barracks with Elvis Presley for a few days.

After release from the military, Chuck was employed as a salesman with several shoe companies traveling the country as a “trouble shooter”. He Lived in Branson, Missouri where he owned a kennel and raised and trained hunting dogs and served as a fishing guide on Lake Taneycomo.

Chuck had a furniture repair and refinishing business and helped build floats for the Veteran’s Day Parade. He was a very talented handyman, adept at home remodeling, building and landscaping.

Chuck wasa member of the Friends Church. Outside of his family, Charles’s love was for the outdoors, hunting and especially fishing. He had many fishing buddies, his best being Jose Solis. These two were very close friends, known throughout all the local fishing areas as “The Old Man and the Mexican”. Some of Charles’ fondest memories were taking his grandson, Jayden, fishing.

Charles was married for almost 39 years to his wife, Betti, and they had two daughters, Christy and Carrie.

Charles is survived by his wife Betti, brothers Don King and wife Myrna of Tulsa, OK; and Lynn King and wife, Cammie of Tulsa, OK; an aunt, Dorothy Staley of North Newton, KS; sisters Roberta, Donita, Beverly, Ruth and Nancy. Sons Charles Edward King,Jr. of Aurora, Colorado; Robert King and wife Clodagh King of Casa Grande, AZ; Kevin King and wife Rose of Elkins, AR; Ron Campbell of Longview, TX; and Cary King of Luther, OK. Daughters Debbie Most of Lawrence, KS; Terri Cook of Siloam Springs, AR; Robin Rahn of Edmond, OK; Christy Baish and husband, Rob of Hewitt, TX; and Carrie King of Robinson, TX; Grandchildren are Shane Dowsett, Isaac Shearer, Renee King, Rachel King, Misty Paris, Maritza Long, Heather Beard, Ryvre Most, Stacie Marsh, Tiffany Most, Michelle Jones, Tammy Mills, Ira Mills, Kevin King, Jewell Hilliard, Shuree Baker, Ben Kaiser, Ronnie Campbell, Jesse Campbell, Cason Campbell, Ryan Archer, Airie King, Kayla king, Tiffany King, Ashley King, Daniel King, Christian King, Brandy Alexander, Chelsea Rahn, Kali Rahn, Maycee Baish, Mollie Baish, Madisyn Neal and Jayden Neal; 22 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all their friends and extended family for the prayers, kind words, gifts of food, remembrances and especially their love at this time.
