Charles Herring

Johnny Charles Herring age 78, of Woodway and Marlin passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011 at a local hospital. Graveside services will be 10AM Monday May 9, 2011 at Moody Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8PM Sunday May 8 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel.

Charles (Sonny) was born March 6, 1933 in Travis, Texas to Joe Bob and Rosa Lee Herring. Charles grew up and lived most of his life in Falls County where he enjoyed remodeling projects and helping friends and neighbors. He also loved to hunt and fish and entertain at family fish fries where he cooked. Charles and Venita met at the VFW in Hewitt and enjoyed dancing throughout their marriage.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; son, John Kelly Herring; half-brother, Billy Herring; half-sister, Frances Rutherford; sister, Bobbie Roberts; and brother, JW Herring.

Charles is survived by his wife Venita McNiel; son LaVon Herring and wife, Cynthia of Navasota; daughter Cindy Clark Broseh and husband, Larry of Mansfield; daughter Becky McPherson and husband John of Richland Springs; son Jamie Herring and wife Susan of Riesel; eight grandchildren ; five great grandchildren. He also is survived by step children Ronnie McNiel and wife Sherry of Hewitt; Cathi Collie and husband Waller of DeSoto; Kelly McNiel of Waco; Tracy McNiel and wife Suzanne of Waco; six step-grandsons and one step-granddaughter.
