As a true daughter of Texas, Carol Anne Wright Mize was born in Beaumont, Texas on March 6th, 1936
- 100 years after the battle of the Alamo. Her parents were Carl G Wright of Fort Smith, Arkansas and
Earline Garrett Wright of Beaumont.
Growing up as an only child, Carol’s childhood was full of fond memories of roller skating, and having
a pony and chickens to raise. As a teenager, she was part of an all-girls singing group - the Melody
Maids. A highlight of being part of the group was a chance to travel to New York City to perform.
After attending Catholic school in Beaumont, Carol attended Texas Woman’s University in Denton,
Texas. It was there in 1955, that she met her future husband (now deceased), Darrell W. Mize.
Carol and Darrell married in 1956 and began an adventure of travel, given that Darrell was a geologist.
Their life required that they move from one oil boom town to another.
From Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Wyoming, North Dakota, Louisiana, and back to Texas - Carol
had three children along the way. She was a homemaker and a wonderful mother to her children.
Her final years were spent in Canton and then in Waco. She died at age 84.
Carol is survived by three children and their spouses:
Daughter Donna and Dale Hester
Son David and Catherine Mize
Daughter Diana and David Young
She is also survived by six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A private family graveside ceremony is scheduled for February 13th.
