Candido "Candy" Gonzales

October 3, 1929 — July 7, 2014

Candido (Candy) Monreal Gonzales passed away peacefully at his residence Monday, July 7, 2014. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July, 11, 2014 at St. Jerome's Catholic Church, 9820 Chapel Road with Father Tom Chamberlain officiating. Vistitation will be 6 - 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home followed by the Rosary at 7p.m. recited by Deacon Ray Jones. Candido was born in McDade, Tx to Abundio and Francisca Gonzales. Candido is the youngest of 13 children. Candido married Caritina Rincon, March 3, 1951 and had 10 children, seven daughters and three sons.
Candido served in the Korean War. Candido was very active at his church, St. Jerome's, and also active in many other Catholic churches as a speaker for youth groups, mission groups and crusades which included the following: The Cursillistas and the Cursillos De Cristiandad, Centro de Cursillos, Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe and Knights of Columbus. Candido was known throughout Waco and surrounding cities in Texas as an advocate in speaking with both young and older people about Christ.
Candido worked at the VA Medical Center in Waco, for 30 years and retired in January 1988. He also worked for American Red Cross as a bus driver and advanced to withdrawing blood from donors. Everyone who came in contact with Candido enjoyed his presence and smiling face.
Candido is survived by his wife of 63 years, Caritina Rincon Gonzales; his seven Daughters and their spouses, Justine and Willie Marquez, Christine and Raymond Mendoza, Selma and Jerry Lopez, Rita and Larry Jackson, Mary Lou and Robert Castillo, Margie and David Jasso, Lupe Kesen and Jimmy Chavez, Sons, Candido Gonzales, Jr., Esteban (Steve) Gonzales and Gerardo (Jerry) Gonzales. Candido also is survived by 32 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are as follows: Jason Marquez, Art Hernandez II, Jose C. Veliz III, Augustine Castillo, Freddie Ramos, Jr., and Michael Kesen.
