Bruce G. Beyer age 54 of Waco went home to be with the Lord April 29, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10AM Thursday May 6, 2010 at St. Jerome Catholic Church with Father Rakshaganathan Selvaraj officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford Texas. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8PM at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with the recitation of the Rosary to begin 7PM.
Bruce was born May 17, 1955 to George and Diane Beyer. He graduated Maryvale Central High School in New York where he fell in love with football. Upon graduation from high school Bruce received an academic and athletic scholarship to Missouri Valley College. He received several academic awards as well as numerous athletic awards including, Co-Captain of the 1976 Viking team, he was elected Most Valuable Player that same year, he was first team All-District, All-Heart of America Athletic Conference in 1975 and 1976, Honorable Mention NAIA defensive-end in 1975, and First Team NAIA All- American defensive end in 1976. Bruce was inducted into the Missouri Valley Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008 which he considered both and honor and a privilege. Bruce pledged and became a Sigma Nu “Snake” his freshman year at Valley and developed many close friendships that lasted until his death.
Bruce loved to entertain and was always ready to have a party. He had a bigger than life personality. Just his presence commanded your attention. His smile would light up the room, and his quick wit could charm anyone. He was a true Gentleman’s Gentleman. Bruce traveled many places throughout his life, but the one place he always went back to was Big Bend National Park. He loved the peace, serenity and was always in awe with the beauty. It provided him the environment he needed for reflection.
He was preceded in death by his beloved father George Beyer.
He is survived by the love of his life and soul-mate, his wife Sheila; his little girl Jennifer Beyer Collins and her husband Justin of Slater Missouri; three sons, Jarred Beyer and his wife Crystal of Slater Missouri, Jeremy Pointer and his wife Chassity of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Ryan Hancock of Waco, Texas. Six Grandchildren, Layla, Justin Jr., Donavan, Ethan, Aiden and Ashlynne. His mother Diane Beyer of Slater Missouri; and a brother Darryl Beyer of Alden New York.
Pallbearers will be Chris Couch, Mark Vera, Steve Spivey, Ricky Dick, Chuck Isbel, Johnny Schoonover and Donny McQueen.
