Brett Benton

Brett Benton, Sr. entered into Heaven's Gates on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. He was 73. Memorial service will be at Lorena United Methodist Church on 1 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2016. Interment will follow at Lorena Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.

Brett was born in San Antonio, Texas to Leah Etoile (Peters) and Douglas Edward Benton. He graduated from University High School in Waco in 1960, where he ran track and played the drums in the UHS Band. Brett also met his high school Sweetheart and the love of his life, Donna Herbelin. They married on November 19, 1960 and recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. Brett retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Plant after 42 years. He loved hunting, camping, playing washers on the beach, cruises, cooking out on his BBQ pits, going to casinos, listening to Elvis, and spending time with his family. In his retirement, Brett enjoyed reading, watching old cowboy movies, traveling and "watching the grass grow."

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Brett leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of 55 years, Donna Herbelin Benton; children and families, Rene and Mike Weir, their children Mace, Marcie, and Micah; Deanne and Mark Hill and their children Blake, Ashley, and Lacey; Brett Jr. (Chip) and Kim Benton and children Ashley, Ryan, Trey, Taylor, and Logan; Brad and Jennifer Benton and children, Kylee, Kolten, Kalli, Hannah, Gavin, Addy, and Linkin; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Buddy Benton and Charles Benton; mother and father in law, Kathryn and John Holder; sisters and brothers in law, Ron and Jan Herbelin, Sue and Edd Clark, Kevin Holder, and Jean Herbelin; plus a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Blake Hill, Trey Benton, Ryan Bell, Kolten Benton, Mace Weir, and Gavin Mach.

Brett was a wonderful husband, Dad, PawPaw, and Uncle. He will be greatly missed. Your heart is healed now, Dad and it is okay to have that third one. We Love You!
