Bobby J. Sumner, 63, of Lorena, passed away at his home on May 7, 2013. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Friday May 10. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr., Woodway.
Bobby grew up in the Methodist Home in Waco where many of life's lessons where taught and learned. Bobby was a retired CW4 with the US Army and also worked as a roofer. He was baptized as a young man in the Methodist church and sang in the choir at the Methodist Home as well as in high school. He had many other talents such as poetry, art, writing, music and he was a lifelong true friend to you. Bobby loved to work in his yard and definitely had a green thumb. "To plant a seed is to believe." Bobby did volunteer work including working with the veterans at the Waco VA Hospital, ticketing and working the concession stand at local high school events. His most important job to him was to raise his son Joe, to love and have fun in life, and to cherish his friends and neighbors.
Bobby was proceeded in death by his father, John Henry Sumner.
Bobby is survived by his mother, Edna James Sumner; son, Joseph Sumner; daughter, Kelly Cook; sisters, Pearl Carey and husband Bert, and Lena Capps; many nieces and nephews; and his earthly angel and girlfriend, Faye Ridgley.
