Bobbie Brint

October 1, 1929 — December 30, 2017

Bobbie Brint, 88, of Woodway, Texas, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her family on Saturday, December 30, 2017, and entered into eternal life. She was laid to rest next to her husband during a private graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, officiated by Pastor Roy Marshall.

Bobbie was born Bobbie Jean Young on October 1, 1929, in Norphlet, Arkansas, to John Abner Young and Ida Mae Collins Young. Bobbie grew up in Norphlet and graduated from Norphlet High School in 1947, where she was a Homecoming Queen nominee and enjoyed acting in school plays. After high school, she attended Draughon School of Business in Little Rock, Arkansas, graduating in 1948. She returned home and began working as a secretary at Lion Oil Company in El Dorado, Arkansas. It was there that a friend asked Bobbie to go on a double date with her and her boyfriend, with Billy Brint of Norphlet as Bobbie’s date. Bobbie was very reluctant at first because she was 20 and Billy was 17, but she finally agreed to the double date.

On April 19, 1952, Bobbie and Billy snuck out of town and eloped to a nearby county, where they were married at a Baptist preacher’s house in Hampton, Arkansas. They returned to Norphlet and did not tell their families that they were married until a month later. Their union lasted 59 wonderful years, until Billy’s death in 2011, and produced three children and three grandchildren. They were not only husband and wife, but best friends, and did everything together. They particularly enjoyed bass fishing at numerous lakes in Arkansas and Texas. In 1971, while fishing in the husband and wife division at the Texas State Bass Tournament, Bobbie received a trophy as the Ladies Big Bass Champion. Their frequent fishing trips always resulted in a family fish fry, especially on Sundays. They enjoyed family vacation trips, and in later years, celebrating their wedding anniversary at the River Walk in San Antonio, and visiting relatives in Florida.

The Brint family moved to Waco, Texas, in February of 1966. Bobbie was very proud to be a Texan. She often commented, “I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could.” In the 1970s, Bobbie enjoyed doing volunteer work at the Waco VA Hospital, and was honored to receive a plaque commemorating 100 hours of volunteer service. In the 1980s, she briefly worked with her husband Billy at Brint Associates, but for most of her adult life she was a homemaker, and a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was very involved in all aspects of her children and grandchildren’s lives, attending all of their sporting events and school functions. She always emphasized learning, both in school and out of school. Her grandchildren remember her getting down on the floor to play with them, even in her 60s and 70s, and she was an absolute master at playing hide-and-seek.

Bobbie was an excellent cook, and her chicken and rice, her fried steak fingers, her spaghetti, and her spice cake were delicious family favorites. She loved to watch sports, particularly the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, and Baylor University athletic teams, especially the Lady Bears. She was a voracious reader, averaging at least one book per week. She also enjoyed various gardening activities, like growing tomatoes and planting flowers.

One of the things Bobbie was most remembered for by all of her family members was her love of snow, going back to when she was a little girl. Her husband and her sisters often said, “Bobbie always saw the first snowflake.” If snow was in the forecast overnight, she would get up frequently and look out the window to see if the snow had arrived. When snow began falling in Waco on New Year’s Eve 2017, it was a very comforting sight to her family.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son-in-law, Victor Brown.

She is survived by her children, Bruce Brint, Brad Brint, and Brenda Brint Franks; her grandchildren, Cody Brown and wife Brittany, Chelsea Brown and fiancée Kaci Gann, and Carson Franks; her sisters, Margie Gibson and husband Floyd of St. Augustine, Florida, and Jannis Echols of El Dorado, Arkansas; her brother, Harvey L. Young of Russellville, Arkansas; her brother-in-law, J.R. Brint, Jr. of El Dorado, Arkansas; her brother-in-law by marriage, Charles R. Lewis of Frisco, Texas; and many nieces and nephews, who all loved her. Bobbie was also eagerly anticipating the upcoming birth of her first great-grandchild, Florien. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt, and she will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Grant and the staff at Baylor Scott and White Fish Pond Clinic; therapists, nurses, CNAs, med techs, and staff at Ridgecrest Retirement and Healthcare Community; doctors, nurses, and CNAs at Providence Hospital; doctors at Waco Lung Associates; nurses at Scott and White Home Health; therapists at Rehab Solutions; nurses and therapists at Texas Home Health; and Tammy at Texas Home Health Hospice. Special thanks to Ryan Ramsower and the staff at Grace Gardens Funeral Home for exemplary care, compassion, and professionalism; and to Pastor Roy Marshall for his wonderful, caring remarks at the graveside service.

Memorials may be made to: The American Stroke Association, Friends of the Waco-McLennan County Library, Meals on Wheels Waco, or Toys for Tots.
