Billy Joe (BJ) Weaver was born January 28, 1968 in Chattanooga, TN to Gloria Clark and Bill Weaver; living with his grandparents in Soddy Daisy, TN until he moved to Texas with his mother and sister in 1979, where he graduated high school at Trinity Euless in 1987.
Billy loved sports such as football, basketball, track, fishing and his most favorite golf. He played varsity football starting his sophomore year where he was fullback in the wishbone offensive formation, #42. Often referred to as “the baddest white boy in school”. Trinity made it in the playoffs most every year, but could not get passed Odessa Permium. Following his highschool football career he attended Tarleton State University in 1987-1989 with most of his highschool teammates, where they won two NAIA National Championships. Throughout his career with football he greatly appreciated the families, coaches, and teachers that helped and supported him along his way. Especially the Bradshaw and Parker families, with their welcoming arms they shaped the man that Billy became. He proudly wore the #42 alongside his football brothers.
Billy was larger than life. He worked at UPS and Walmart in Bedford, TX where he found his passion for sales in retail. Billy started as a cart pusher and eventually worked his way up to Assistant Store Manager at one of the largest Walmart Supercenters in Arlington, TX. This is where he met the love of his life and eternal companion Carol. The two married on March 24, 1996.
Billy was a wonderful father to 3 beautiful sons, the first being William Joseph Weaver born September 29, 1992 (to Billy Weaver and Courtney Deane) and on June 14, 1997, his second Skylar Keegan Weaver was born, then on February 22, 2001 his youngest son, Alec Payne Weaver was born.
Billy and Carol along with Skylar moved to Waco, TX in 1999 where they opened their first retail adventure Mattress Supercenter. The name of the business has changed since, but 24 years later, Waco Mattress Center is Billy’s legacy, pride and joy. When he wasn’t at work he was fishing or golfing or at his sons' sporting events. Golf was his way of life and very dear to him alongside his family and friends. Although he didn’t speak of his faith often, Billy accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior earlier this year.
Billy loved his sons, along with the addition of his daughter-in-laws, Nicole Needham in November of 2019 and Catelyn Long in March of 2021. His next great joys came with the birth of his grandsons, Wyatt James Weaver on September 10, 2021 to Joey and Nicole Weaver and the birth of Tucker Owen Weaver on February 12, 2022 to Skylar and Catelyn Weaver. Billy always wanted a daughter, but he came to realize that boys were his destiny.
Billy always lended a helping hand, no matter what he had going on in his personal life, he was always available and willing to help those in need. He gave wisdom and love and would tell you like it is. If he had the chance to tell you what you meant to him he would, his favorite saying was, “ I’m glad you got to see me today." He appreciated all that those around him did for him, especially how Jim and Carla Deane welcomed him in and treated him like more than a son-in-law, following his marriage to Carol, her father Harold Grote often referred to him as a best friend. Billy meant so much to all of his friends and family, but there is one individual amongst us that meant so much to him. Alfred Whiteside showed him how to slow down, enjoy life and he helped spark Billy's passion for race cars; he taught Billy so many life lessons and wisdom. Alfred and Billy together just made sense.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents Bill Weaver and Gloria Scott. Billy is survived by his wife Carol of 27 years, his children William (Joey) and wife Nicole, Skylar and wife Catelyn, and Alec, his grandsons Wyatt and Tucker, his sister Rhonda Lambert and husband Chris, and his nephews Josh, Jarred, and Colton, his niece Jules. As well as all of his friends that have become family throughout the years.
