Billy Gene Montgomery passed away December 2, 2011. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Woodway First United Methodist Church. Service officiated by Reverend John Dirk and Dr. J. Allen Goss. Participating in the service is Dawn Gilliland, Diaconal Minister at Woodway First United Methodist Church and Wesley Gilliland.
Billy was born August 29, 1933 in Eldorado, Texas to Monty and Lorene Montgomery. They moved to Bellmead in 1946 where he attended La Vega High School and graduated in 1951. Billy was on the State High School football team at La Vega from 1950-1951. He attended Navarro College in Corsicana. He joined the Air Force in 1954 until 1958. He worked for General Tire and Rubber for 33 years before it closed in 1986. He worked for Ridgecrest Retirement Center for 12 years and at Fish Pond Medical Clinic before retirement in May of 2011. Billy loved woodworking and has his work in lots of homes.
He married Mildred McCormick (Toady) on July 3, 1952 in Waco, where they made their home. Billy had been a member of Woodway First United Methodist Church since 1961. He was also a member of Pathfinder Sunday School Class and served on many committees at the Church.
Billy is survived by his wife; one brother, Monty Montgomery and wife, Barbara, of Waco; several nieces and nephews; two God-children, Kyle Cummings of Paris, Texas, and Cindi Maupin of Tennessee; one brother in law, Dr Roy D McCormick and wife, Nell, of Texarkana, Texas; and one sister in law, Helen Watts of Waco.
