Billy Frank Guest, 92, of Woodway, passed away peacefully Monday, January 30, 2023. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home with the Brother Roy Marshall officiating. Interment will follow at Moody Cemetery. A visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Bill was born January 3, 1931, in Turkey, Texas. He graduated from Turkey High School in 1949. He then moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he began his career with the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. During his career, he worked in Amarillo, Midland, Mexia, Corpus Christi, and Waco, Texas. While residing in Moody from 1964 to 1968, he was active in many civic organizations. He was a member of the City Council, President of the Moody Lions Club, Assistant Fire Chief, Boy Scout Leader, and an officer in the Moody Masonic Lodge. The telephone company sent Bill on special assignments which included hurricanes on the coast and to New York City. During the Apollo 11 Program, he was assigned to the NASA Tracking Station in Corpus Christi, Texas. He retired from AT&T in 1984 and operated his own business, Midstate Telecom, Inc. until 1991.
Bill married Delores LaRae Lasly in Midland, Texas, on December 1, 1956. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodway for many years. He was a long time member of the Fidelis Lodge, No. 1127, Waco Scottish Rite and Karem Shrine Temple. He also served as an Advisor in the Order of DeMolay. Bill was a charter member of the Travlin’ Texans Motor Coach Club and served as President for two years. After retiring, Bill joined the Waco Senior Golf League which he enjoyed very much until his health declined.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Guest, in 2019; his son, Michael Frank Guest, in 1998; his sister, Bonnie Christian in 2020; his parents, William and Edith Guest; and his grandparents.
He is survived by his son, Ray Guest and wife, Laurie of Waco; grandson Taylor Guest and wife Leah of Killeen; grandson Rush Guest of Waco; granddaughter, Brooke Guest of McGregor; great-granddaughter Sophie Guest; daughter-in-law, Dawn Turner and husband, Woody, of McGregor; sister-in-law Nita Brashear of Terlingua; and several nieces and nephews.
Pall Bearers will be Taylor Guest, Rush Guest, Woody Turner, Cory Tull, and Brandon Pierson.
