Betty Seaman of Hewitt, died Monday morning, October 26, 2015, at the age of 84. The Memorial Service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 30, 2015, at Hewitt First Baptist Church, under the direction of Grace Gardens Funeral Home, with Rev. Roy Marshall officiating.
Mrs. Seaman was born March 25, 1931, in Hopkins County, Texas, the daughter of the late Albert Fielding and Mary Elizabeth (Massey) Helm. She attended Sulphur Springs High School and married John Weldon Seaman August 22, 1953 in Greenville, Texas.
Much of her life was spent as a secretary for various businesses. However, her longest and most rewarding job was as school secretary for McWhorter Elementary in the Mesquite Independent School District until her 1982 retirement. In 1993, the couple moved from Leesburg, Texas, to Hewitt. She became an active member of Hewitt First Baptist Church and served for many years on the bereavement committee and was a member of the Sheppard’s Sunday School Class. She was also involved in the Meals on Wheels Program in Waco. Throughout her life, she enjoyed reading about history, biographies, especially of Winston Churchill and Theodore Roosevelt. She also enjoyed refinishing antique furniture.
Also preceding her in death was a brother, Sammy Helm; two sisters, Dean Teague and Jo Phillips.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-two years, John W. Seaman; two sons, John Weldon Seaman, Jr. and wife Denise, Patrick Fielding Seaman and wife Dawn; four grandchildren, John Weldon Seaman, III and wife Mindy, Joseph Seaman and wife Kathleen, Patrick Seaman, Jr. and Blake Seaman.
