On November 8, 2024, Beth Alice Johnson Rubright passed away after a brief illness at Baylor-Scott &
White-Hillcrest in Waco. Beth was born on December 2, 1947, in Auburn, NY. She was a lifelong choral
singer, having performed at notable venues such as Wolf Trap Farm Park for the Performing Arts and the
Kennedy Center, as well as with various city choruses and orchestras. Additionally, she was a talented
seamstress, known for crafting costumes for theatrical productions and church events.
Beth married Richard Rubright, the love of her life, on December 27, 1972, at Parkwood Baptist Church
in Annandale, VA. Although she worked as a nursing assistant, she primarily dedicated herself to caring
for her family and remained actively involved in Crossties Ecumeical Faith Community in Waco.
She was preceded in death by her father, Devillo Lincoln Johnson; her mother, Martha Gertrude Hoag
Johnson; and her infant brother, David Leo. Beth is survived by her husband, Richard, of Waco, TX; her
daughter, Gillien, and her husband, Jonathan Oliver, of Lorena, TX; her granddaughters, Alexandra and
Samantha Oliver, of Hewitt, TX; her son, Daniel; her son, Timothy, and his wife, Felicia Rubright, of Nova
Scotia, Canada; and her daughter, Carol, and her husband, John Smith, along with their children, Ethan,
Elijah, and Jasmine Smith, of Colorado Springs, CO.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Baylor-Scott & White Hillcrest
Medical Center for the loving care provided to Beth. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to local community food banks.
