Bert attended University High School and later obtained his GED. He married Pearl Sumner, his high school sweetheart on June 28, 1963. After moving to Lorena, he began working for Owens Brockway for thirty-five years. Bert was a wonderful man who cherished so many things in life. He always gave his time to treasure the moments he got to spend with his loving wife, children, and grandkids.
Some of Bert's hobbies included deep-sea fishing at the coast, Harley motorcycles, NASCAR, and traveling with their camping club, old western shows, and most importantly spending time with the grandkids and watching them play sports. One thing Bert would love to say just one more time is how much he dearly loves his sweet wife, Pearl -from asking her to marry him on their very first date to almost fifty-three years later...what a wild ride and such a sweet blessing.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Langston and Bessie Mae Richardson Carey; his brother, Joel Langston Carey, Jr.; brother-in-law, Bobby Joe Sumner; and sister-in-law, Lena Capps.
Bert is survived by his wife, Pearl Sumner Carey of Lorena; his son, Bert Dewayne Carey of Lorena; two daughters, Denise Sampson and husband, Kellis, of Woodway and Dawn Coats and husband, Bobby, of China Springs; three grandchildren, Josh and Katie Sampson and Ayden Coats; sister, Doryce Payne of Longview; and mother-in-law, Edna James of Waco; and numerous friends.
