Barbara Ann Schultz was born in Houston, Texas, on October 15, 1932. She passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on January 23, 2024.
Barbara graduated from the University of Texas in 1955 with a degree in Kinesiology. After graduation, she began teaching physical education at Southwest Texas State Teachers College (Texas State University). While teaching in San Marcos, she met the love of her life, Lynwood (Lynn) Gene Schultz. Barbara and Lynn were married on December 29, 1956. The couple had three children: Deborah, Russell, and Alan. The family lived in Bellaire, Texas, a suburb of Houston, where Barbara worked as a librarian. Upon retirement, Barbara and Lynn resided in Brenham, and then Hewitt, Texas.
Barbara lived with purpose, dedication, and a kind, giving heart throughout her life. She was a hard worker who excelled at almost everything that she attempted. She enjoyed adventure, the outdoors, and trying new things. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and friends.
Barbara and Lynn were avid supporters of the Houston Astros. They loved spending time at their “little cabin in the woods” in Plantersville, Texas, and enjoyed doing craft fairs in their early retirement years. Lynn was the woodworker, and Barbara did beautiful stained-glass pieces. She was honored by the opportunity to replace the stained-glass windows of the Lutheran church in Cat Springs, Texas. She was active in her church and participated in the women’s Bible studies group. Barbara was an avid shopper and reader. She loved taking road trips, sewing, quilting, and playing dominoes.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn; her parents, Dwight and Madeline Otis; brother, Robert F. Otis, Sr and wife, Cynthia; brother-in-law, Glenwood D. Schultz and wife, Katherine; and sister-in-law Laverne Hanna and husband, Marvin.
Her three children survive her: Debbie Jones and husband David of Hewitt, Russell Schultz and wife Mary of Brenham, and Alan Schultz and wife Dawna of Oklahoma City. Surviving grandchildren are Kyle Jones and wife Andra, Kristin Rettig and husband Clayton, Scott Schultz and wife Kimberly, Jillian Schultz, Doug Salas and wife Margie, Natalie Mares, Andrew Mares and wife Stefanie, Courtney Perez and husband Kyle, Erin Locke and husband Adam, and Joseph Bates. At the time of her death, Barbara was blessed and loved by twenty-one great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
