Barbara Burr

October 13, 1942 — April 13, 2025

Barbara Burr, 82, of Woodway, was welcomed into Heaven Sunday, April 13, 2025. A Celebration of her life will be 2pm, Monday, April 21, 2025, at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church. A time of visitation with her family will begin at 1pm, and a reception will follow.

Barbara Jane McClung Burr was born October 13, 1942, to Jane Huston McClung and Edward Elmo McClung in Dallas, Texas. She met Thomas Hutchinson Burr on a blind date, saying she had a date with a red MG Convertible. Barbara hopped on a bus and eloped with Tom, and they married on July 12, 1965. Their love story is one for the ages and would be celebrating 60 years of marriage this year.

Tom and Barbara had three children: Shannon Burr Ashe, Kristen Burr Strickland Eaton, and Edward Hutchinson Burr. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dr. Robert McClung, and her great granddaughter Lilly-Jane Strickland. Barbara is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren: Hutch, Andy, Brenna, Derek, Addie, Kaleigh, Aaron, and Kelsi; and two great grandchildren: Sammy and Ava.

Barbara grew up as "Sugie" and became "BeBe" with her first grandchild. Barbara taught school for over thirty-five years and was known as Mrs. Burr to generations of Midway students. She inspired countless students in science and reading, including building a life-size, to scale, papier mache blue whale in the school hallway. After retirement, Barbara stayed busy and active with several groups and organizations such as "Daughters of the King" within the Episcopal Church, Beta Sigma Phi, Quilt Bee, several bridge groups, a bunko group, "Crafties", and the Holy Hookers (a knitting group). Barbara served as a Hillcrest Hospital Ambassador volunteer, and after she fought her own cancer, she helped other women with cancer with wig fittings in the Cancer Center Gift Shop. Barbara has created and donated multiple quilts to those in need.

Barbara is a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Her generous and joyful heart brought happiness to everyone she met. Known for her infectious laugh, she brightened every room. Her faith in an everlasting life with Christ brings comfort to those who love her most, knowing she is fully healed and at peace.

In Lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to a charity of your choice or to the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 1624 Wooded Acres Drive, Waco, Texas 76710.
