Barbara Ellen Barritt, 66, passed away November 30th at her home in Waco, Texas. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 1st from 6-8 pm, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Woodway, Texas. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 2nd, at 10:30 am, at First Baptist Church Woodway. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 5th, at 10:00 am, at First Baptist Church in Bolivar, MO.
Barbara was born March 21, 1943, in San Antonio to Herman and Evelyn (Speckels) Dyal. She was a 1961 graduate of Spring Branch High School in Houston. She studied business at Baylor University and was a member of Alpha Omega Sorority (presently known as Pi Beta Phi). It was at Baylor where she met Herbert Barritt. They married August 24, 1963, in Houston.
Outside the home, Barbara’s career included work at the City of Waco Public Library, Bell Helicopter, and Klein High School. Her most important roles were as wife, mother, and homemaker.
Barbara’s passions were her family and the protection of unborn life. For several years she volunteered at Alpha House Pregnancy Resource Center in Bolivar, Missouri, and Care Net Pregnancy Center in Waco, and served as a member of the Board of Directors for both organizations.
She was a member of First Baptist Church Woodway, Daughters of the American Revolution, The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and Stephen F. Austin’s Old Three Hundred. She was an active booster of Baylor University athletics with membership in the Baylor Bear Foundation, the Tip Off Club, the Fast Break Club, and the Diamond Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Carolyn Ann Dyal; a son, Blaine Cole Barritt; a grandson, Edwin Logan Barritt; and three preterm grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christina Barritt of Lubbock; a daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Joe Langford of Bolivar, Missouri; two grandchildren, Samuel and Abigail Barritt; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Leonard King of Houston; a brother and sister-in-law, Herman Dyal, Jr., and Carla Fraser of Austin.
Pallbearers will be Dick Bernhardt, Chris Herod, Charles Kight, Walter Partin, Victor Rinkle, and Rick Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Baylor University softball team.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central Texas, The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, or The Alpha House Pregnancy Resource Center.
