Dr. Arthur Wesley Wellborn Jr., age 60, stepped into heaven on July 31, 2021. There will be a celebration of life and worship service at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 4 at First Woodway Baptist Church. A visitation time will immediately follow the service at First Woodway.
Wes was born December 17, 1960 in Abilene, Texas to Arthur Wesley Wellborn and Wanda Joyce Reece Wellborn. He married the love of his life, Kimberly Diann Peggram Wellborn on July 14, 1984.
At the age of seven he made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and received his gift of salvation. At the age of 10, he committed his life to serve as a minister, and he began to prepare that direction through his youth years and college.
He graduated high school from Sulphur Springs in 1978 and attended East Texas State for one year before moving to Plainview where he attended Wayland Baptist University and relentlessly pursued Kimberly. After seven years he finally earned his Bachelor’s Degree in religion and convinced Kimberly to marry him. He later received his Masters in Education from Wayland and a Doctorate of Education from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Wes served faithfully in the ministry for nearly 30 years and taught for 13 years in higher education. His passions were ministry, motorcycles, road trips with his wife, his children, his grandchildren, music, writing, teaching the Bible, making fun of those he loved, cigars, and people and things the average person couldn’t care less about. He found beauty in the simple, and he sought out people and places that no one else would. He was a son, brother, husband, Daddy, Big Daddy, and so much more. His family never questioned if he loved them.
Wes was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Wesley Wellborn and his wife, Kimberly Wellborn.
He is survived by his three children, Amber Lopez, Alyssa Meyer, and Arthur Wesley, III.; nine grandchildren; sister Pennye Golden, brother David Wellborn, and mother Wanda Joyce Wellborn.
In honor of Wes’s love for ministry and his church, in lieu of flowers we ask that you would give to the Willow Grove Baptist Church building fund. You may send donations directly to the church; Willow Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 129, Moody, TX 76557.
