Arthur M. Acker, 85, of Waco, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015, quietly at his residence surrounded by his family. Per Arthur's request a Private Service for his family will be held at a later date.
Arthur was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Robert and Irene Acker. Following his graduation from Watertown High School in Massachusetts, Arthur served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War, having then graduated from Northwestern University and MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Following his father's footsteps in the Artisan Stained Glass business, he then evolved into working for various flat glass architectural firms from contract sales with PPG Industries, to President of ASG and Shatterproof Glass Corp. During this time, Arthur served as President of the Laminators Safety Glass Association and represented the flat glass industry in testimony before the United States Tariff Commission and the Consumer Products Safety Commission. Arthur was also a member of various other glass industry trade associations.
Following this, Arthur wanted to start a business of his own and live in a Texas town that suited his style. So after some research and visits, Arthur and his son, John, settled in Waco in 1979 and started Enhanced Glass. It was here in Waco where Arthur met his wife of 26 years, Gloria. Upon retirement in 1990, Arthur and Gloria became involved in raising and racing pigeons and several business ventures including, Sunrise Nursery and Fence.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria; son, John Acker; step-son, Paul Roberts and wife, Missy; sister, Barbara Richardson; grandchildren, Victoria Acker, Alexandrea Stalford, Emily Roberts, Holly Roberts, and Skot Roberts; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend thanks to Bluebonnet Hospice for their comfort during this difficult time.
