Annie McLaughlin

Annie Belle Waters McLaughlin 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at home near Turnersville, Texas. There was a private family service held and her cremated remains were interred at the Turnersville Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted at a later date at the Turnersville Community Center.

Annie was born on January 1, 1935, in Moran Texas to Cyrus Anderson Waters and Emma Viola Lucy. She was united in marriage to Coleman (Pete) Oldham in 1953 in Belton Texas. Her oldest son, Mark Coleman Oldham and daughter Kay Michele Oldham were born to this union. She began working at Ft. Hood, Texas as a civil servant in 1957. ln 1969 she met Gary Dean McLaughlin and they married in August 1969. Their youngest son, Don Kip McLaughlin, was born in March 1974. Six months later she graduated with honors from West Texas State University with a degree in Social Work.

Annie was born and raised on a ranch and she returned to that life in 1976 in order to care for her parents as their health began to fail. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, and mother, while tending to the daily ranch chores while Gary continued his career as a full time member of the Army National Guard of Texas.

Annie also dedicated many hours to the Killeen schools as a volunteer in the classroom. She was a founding member of the Harker Heights recreation association before the city took over with full time employees. The volunteers in this association ensured that the kids had summertime and winter sports activities available.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Cyrus and Viola Waters.

She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Gary Mc Laughlin of Turnersville, Texas; her two sons; Mark Oldham and wife Deborah, of Bryan, Texas and Don McLaughlin of Austin, Texas; her daughter Kay Oldham of Gatesville, Texas.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the care givers of Kinder Home Hospice Care and Divine Living Assistance for their tender care and compassion during Annie's final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's or to your personal charity of choice.
