Alvia Dean Meyer Sedberry, was born April 19, 1930 in Mosheim, Texas to Alvin J. Meyer and Ada M.Walker Meyer.
Dean attended Crawford and McGregor School, graduating from McGregor High School in 1947. She was in the Pep Squad 46’ and Home Ec, 46’ 47’. Annual reads “Coquettish” (a flirt). Following high school Dean took courses at Four C College; was employed by Goldstein –Migel Dept. Store for 5 years as their chief switchboard operator and then came to work at General Tire & Rubber Company. The switchboard operator is one of the important nerve centers of General Tire and Rubber Company. Dean worked at General Tire and was titled the “Nerve Center Dean Meyer”. At one time or another, almost all employees spoke to her. Many important incoming calls from other plants and localities must be routed by her to the right people. In this vital position, you could find Miss Alvia Dean Meyer.
It was during this time she met H. A. Sedberry, the love of her life. Rumor has it that it was love at first sight at M C’s Bar and Grill on N. 25th street. They were married on April 11, 1953 at St. Albans Episcopal Church, with a very small ceremony, Lloyd and Alene Meyer as their attendants. They made Waco their home and had 2 children, Brenda D. Sedberry Kiphen and Bradley T. Sedberry.
After having her children Dean decided she needed to find her independence so she decided to go back to work. This decision landed her a job working for the City of Waco in Delinquent Tax Department and retiring after 25yrs. Dean was active for many years in the Karen Shrine Temple Eastern Star. After retirement Dean was not one to sit still. She loved meeting people so she decided to try her hand in Food Demonstration. After working for several demo companies, showing them the ropes I might add, she felt that the wonderful people with HEB would fit her best. She loved this job and couldn’t wait to see what great meal deals she could present. sHer interest didn’t stop there. Dean’s love of plants and flowers lead her to becoming an honorary Volunteer for the Fine Arts Division of the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo for 9 years. She was delighted in receiving her free gate and parking pass for life.
Dean loved sewing, traveling, receiving mail order magazines, her lovely patio home with all her plants and flowers. Lowes and Home Depot employees knew her by name. Holidays were her favorite and it showed in her love of decorating for the seasons. She never missed a holiday. Her true blessing though is her 3 grand children and 5 great grandchildren. They kept her busy and she loved every minute.
Dean was preceded in death by husband H.A. Sedberry, parents Alvin and Ada Meyer, survived by daughter Brenda D. Sedberry Kiphen and husband Rusty Kiphen, son Bradley T.
