Alton Tynes, 88, of Waco, passed away Friday, January 10, 2014 in Katy. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Marvin Thompson and Dan McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with Alton's family will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.

Alton was born March 4, 1925 in Waco to Alton Dee Tynes, Sr. and Annie Schulz Tynes. He graduated from Waco High School in 1943. He then enlisted in the US Army. After a brief time serving his country, Alton returned to Waco to attend Baylor University. Alton married Betty Faye Sanders in 1947. He then began a career with General Tire Company that lasted 38 years. Alton was a long time member of the Edgefield Baptist Church of Waco. For the past decade, Alton was living in Katy to be near his daughter, Vanessa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Betty Tynes.

Alton is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Hale and husband, Dr. Tim Hale of Katy; son, Kenny Tynes and wife, Kay of Axtell; grandsons, Kristian Tynes and wife, Brandi of Riesel and Kyle Hale and wife, Courtney of Katy; granddaughters, Cassie Tynes of Elm Mott, Carrie Norman and husband, Daniel of Elm Mott, Lindsay Boyd and husband, Chris of Houston and Amelia McCook of Axtell; six great grandchildren; two sister in laws, Myrtle Burrow of Nacogdoches and Nina Groth of Waco; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Kristian Tynes, Kyle Hale, Daniel Norman, Chris Boyd, Bryan Jaska and Kelly Test.
