Alma Lynn (Burton) Crawley

December 23, 1942 — December 22, 2020

Waco, Texas

Alma Burton Crawley, age 77, went to the arms of her Heavenly Father at a local hospital.  A Celebration of her life will be 11 am, Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.  A visitation with her family will be an hour prior to the service.

She was born to Arthur Lee Burton and Nadine Phelps Burton in Pasadena, Texas and spent most of her young life in Angleton.  She loved music, sang in a sextet, played clarinet and was a majorette in the Angleton High School Band.  Upon graduation, Alma attended Baylor University to study Home Economics Education.  She received a National Defense Scholarship/Loan and went to Baylor having never seen the campus nor did she have a room assignment.  It was at Baylor that she met her future husband, Hank Crawley, in 1962 and they were married June 5, 1965.  Alma taught school in Texas, North Carolina, and back to Texas retiring from Waco I.S.D.  She was a P.T.A. president at several schools as her two sons Brent and Geoff grew up.  For a number of years, Alma coached soccer and was a member of the local soccer board.  Alma dearly loved the Lord and His amazing grace.  One of her favorite time periods was the 20 years that she taught Sunday School in the preschool department at Columbus Ave Baptist Church.  She had to quit teaching when her knees wouldn’t allow her to sit on the floor with the 4-year-old children anymore. Everyone who knew Alma loved her and she will be deeply missed.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Lee and Nadine Burton.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Henry Crawley of China Spring, son, Brent Crawley of Spring, children, Christopher, Madelyn and Caleb, son, Geoff and wife Miriah of Katy, children Lillian, Makenna and Sienna, sister, Helen Vasut and husband Gene of Fayetteville and, sister, Ethel Morris and husband Tom of Lake Jackson; brother-in-law, John Crawley and wife Michele, of Dallas; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers you may donate to Columbus Ave Baptist Church, c/o Building Fund, 1300 Columbus Ave, Waco, TX 76701 or the charity of your choice.
