Alice “Jean” Massey of Waco, Texas, loving mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on August 31, 2022 with her daughter, Jeanne by her side. The family will receive visitors at Grace Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, September 2nd from 3:00 – 5:00 pm with graveside services Saturday, September 3rd at 12:00 noon at the Lorena Cemetery in Lorena Texas with the Reverend Scott Talley officiating.
Jean was born November 11, 1930 to Carlton Tipton and Dorothy Neill Tipton. She graduated from Fox Tex High School in San Antonio and then attended business school. She worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in San Antonio, and later enjoyed a long and distinguished career in banking.
She married Clarence Massey on June 4, 1988 in San Antonio. He was the love of her life. She retired several years later and they moved to LaVernia, Texas. In 2013 they moved to the Waco area to be closer to their families.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, her parents, Dorothy Sawyer and Carlton Tipton, sisters, Maxine Shubert and Dorothy Pape, and brother Jack Tipton. She is also predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Lee Hicks.
She is survived by daughters, Jeanne Mirick and husband George of Moody, Texas and Danah Buix and husband Jim of Camos, Washington, grandchildren Jamie and Jimmy Generals, Jason and Stormy Hall, Amber Reffett, Jennifer and Mat Haderlie. Mandy and Mike Durham, and Christopher Humphreys. She is also survived by 18 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and her sister, Marjorie Smith of Lancaster, CA. Other survivors include her dear friend, Cheryl Lewis, and the many friends friends and staff members at St. Elizabeth Assisted Living. She loved you all so much.
Pallbearers are George Mirick, Jason Hall, Jimmy Generals, Jackson Generals, Eddie Generals and Mat Haderlie.
The family would like to express its deepest appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital, and the Hillcrest Hospice Team who cared for her to the very end. Their loving compassionate care will never be forgotten.
