Alex Avila Flores, 78, beloved father and husband, went home to be with the Lord on February 3, 2022. He was born in Houston, Texas to the late Joseph and Erlinda Flores.
Alex is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elma, daughter Erin and husband Kenneth Skillett, Son Alex Jr., brother Joe Flores and wife Aurora. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sean Poffenbarger, Elizabeth and EJ Young, Joshua Brown, Sarah Skillett, and Great Grandchild Lilly Beth Young.
Alex graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Houston Texas in 1963 and then enlisted in the Navy in July of 1964 to serve in the Vietnam War and continued to serve his country through the Naval reserves and worked as a Dental Lab Tech for the VA hospital to serve our veterans, for a total of 35 years. Following his service in the Navy, Alex went to college at Texas State Technical College and graduated August 8th, 1973. He gained his Associate of Applied Science in Dental Laboratory technology.
His greatest joys in life were serving his wife and family whom he loved spending time with. He also shared a joy in woodworking and making birdhouses. During his time in the Navy he fostered a love for traveling to interesting places, and eating good food. Alex was a charming guy who loved to make others laugh and he loved his country and he loved experiencing life and those whom he shared it with.
Alex served his family, friends and his country with honor and integrity and in doing so honored his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with his servants heart. He will be sorely missed but leaves a beautiful legacy of servitude through those he served and loved.
