Albin A. Tomchesson

Albin Tomchesson, 81, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2013. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Jerome Catholic Church at 10 a.m on Saturday, September 14, 2013 with Father Raj Selvaraj as celebrant. Rosary will be recited Friday, September 13, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation to follow.
Al was born March 12, 1932 to Pete K. Tomchesson and Annie Andrejewski Tomchesson in Bremond, TX. Al attended Marlin schools and graduated in 1950, Marlin High School. Following that he attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1954 and that same year Al was drafted into the US Army. He trained in Ft. Ord, California and Baltimore, Maryland. He served 2 years in the Counter Intelligence Corp in Stuttgard, Germany. In 1956, Al returned and met the love of his life, Carol Ann Davis, whom he married in 1959. On May 27 of this year, they celebrated their 54th anniversary.
Al was a pioneer in the data processing, programming, and computer industry for 4 major corporations: SW Bell Telephone, Haggar Slacks, Johnson & Johnson, and Northern Electric, a subsidiary of Sunbeam, in Mississippi. In 1971, he returned to Waco where he worked for Allstate Insurance for 27 years. He retired in 1997. In his retirement, he and Carol loved RV travel, boating, fishing, golf, yard work, and gardening.
He was a founding member of St. Jerome Catholic Church of Waco. He served on the building committee, and for 28 years served as a church usher on Sunday mornings at 8:30 mass.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Teddy J. Tomchesson; and daughter, Teri Tomchesson Curry.
Al is survived by his spouse, Carol; good friend and sister-in-law, Ginger Swearingen; sister, Helen Hayes; children, Tim, Tracey Warren and husband Brad, Tina Johnson and husband Joey, Teddy and wife Wendy; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made to Providence Hospice, the Hewitt Library, or the American Cancer Society.
