Woodway, Texas

Alan Cherry North, age 70, of Waco, TX, passed away on Friday January 31st, surrounded by his loved ones.

Alan was born on December 21st, 1954, in Fort Worth, TX, to Dwan and Mary Cherry North. He grew up in Waco and met the love of his life, Martha Tweedie North at a Baylor college football game in October 1968. He and Martha were married on the nation’s Bicentennial, July 4th, 1976. He and Martha welcomed their beautiful daughter, Lindsey Ann. Alan worked for Payless Cashways in Waco for 9 years. Alan then went on to serve in the Waco Fire Department. He spent nearly 5 years as a firefighter and 21 years as a dispatcher. Alan retired from the Waco Fire Department in 2011 after over 26 years of service. He and Martha welcomed their son-in-law, Matthew Wallace when he and Lindsey were married.

Alan was always ready to lend a helping hand. Even as an off-duty fireman, he stepped up to support those in need of assistance. He loved taking ski trips to Colorado with his wife, daughter, family, and friends. He brought joy to those around him with his lovable sense of humor. He loved God and set an incredible example of living his faith. He never missed an opportunity to share the good news of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Alan was a devoted member of Speegleville Baptist Church.

Alan is survived by his beloved wife Martha, daughter Lindsey, son-in-law Matthew, and his siblings Dan, Dru, Kenny, Jim, and Joletha North, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Dwan and Mary Cherry North, and siblings David North and Mary Ellade Harcrow.

A service to celebrate and honor Alan’s life will be held on March 1st at Grace Gardens Funeral Home and Crematorium at eleven o’clock in the morning.
